Eventful Mothers Day

May 14, 2012 in Just Us, Photos

I think to say I had an eventful Mother’s Day is probably the understatement of the century.  I spent the morning at home (see yesterday’s post)… it was nice.  I cuddled with my cats, and took my two girls to the groomer.  Professional groomers make life so much easier.  They do all the work for you.  It cost a pretty penny.

So I then packed up my old Jeep, loaded 2 of my 4 cockers up and my sister and left behind, sadly, my other 2 cocker kids for Mishou and Pops to come pick up later in the day.  I got lots of sad puppy eyes that really are hard to look it.  I probably shouldn’t have taken a picture, but I did, so I now have lasting guilt.  Isn’t this the saddest thing ever?  They don’t understand what’s going on.

So we were off, oh, well, first we had to turn around and go back for my wallet.  Thank goodness we did… you will see why later.  I dropped my sister off at my mom and dad’s and got to give my mom a quick hug and kiss and a gift and card.  My mom got a Lemon sugar bread candle.  Lemon is one of her fav scents.  Click on my mom’s picture to go read her blog.  She loves all things vintage!

So then I was on my way back to Texas with my other 2 cocker kids, Wil and Sadie… all seemed fine until this happened.

Ummm, yeah… I am really lucky.  Really lucky!  It was hot too.  We had roadside assistance come and put the donut on and I drove the next 26 miles to the nearest tire place.  By the time my tire was done, my husband was pulling in, he’d made the 3 hour drive in record time to meet me and drive the jeep the rest of the way in case another tire blew.  We need 3 more because they are all the same age and all older tires.

Here’s some more of our fun!  Wil loves riding in the jeep.  He rides very well.

My husband is awfully smiley.  He was just happy we were okay and to see the dogs for the first time in a long while.

Once I got through that whole mess, the drive back to the new home was uneventful.  It really wasn’t much of a mother’s day but my youngest sister did put this cute card on my facebook page.  I just love this, it’s so cute and cocker spaniels too!  <3

So we have no internet at home til tomorrow but I hope to get some scrapping or designing done so I can post some more “on topic” stuff for ya’ll.

Brought to you from…

May 12, 2012 in My House, News, Photos, Texas

HOME!  My kitchen table!

Ya’ll already know we are in a big transition… moving to Texas.  Wow… what a huge transition for the Arkansas girl who’s never lived more than an hour or so from home.  But today, I am back at my kitchen table, packing a small amount of stuff up for our new apartment and visiting with my dogs.  They missed me almost as much as I missed them.

Here’s a bit of my adventure today…

The apartment… city style and super cute, but too dang pricey and small!

So the lawn mower won’t start, huh?  Maybe it’s all this grass stuck in the blades.

Oh, yeah, that’s the problem…

Now the lawn’s mowed.  It was seriously out of control.  Thanks Jenn, oops sorry, I did take your picture even though you said “Doooon’t”… ha ha

The cocker kids don’t care for the boxes in the house… they are too smart for their own good.  They know what packing means.  My cats on the other hand, they think “Cool… something to sit on/play with/eat”… lol…  This is Trac… he’s too funny… he just looked at me, lol.

If my husband find me blogging, he might say “get to work”… so that’s my story for the day.  :)

Photography: Super Moon

May 7, 2012 in Photography, Photos

We had a super moon Saturday night.  Have you ever seen one?  Frankly, it looks the same to me.  They said the moon would be at it’s fullest at 11:35 p.m.  My husband and I went out and snapped a photo.  Here’s the best shot I had.

What do you think?  Do you have a photo of the super moon?  If you do, please post me a link, I’d love to see it!

I scrapped today!

April 8, 2012 in Uncategorized

I’ve been trying to spend more time scrapping.  It’s not easy, when your busy like I’ve been, but it is so important, I think.  So I’ve been trying to do challenges.  I’ve really enjoyed the challenges at The Lilypad.  Each month they have BYOC.  It’s a great mix of stuff showing off their designers best style and it’s on sale!  They have a special challenge where you use what you bought from BYOC.

Here’s a few of my favorite items…

These alphas are really cute!

How awesome are these instagram-like frames?  I love them!

I am guesting with Amy Martin this month.  She’s really got some great stuff… here’s her BYOC stuff… Her templates are UNIQUE and awesome.  So much fun to use!

These stitching frames are really fun to scrap with!

I made a page for the BYOC challenge… well, two actually… here’s what the two pager looks like…

Okay, That’s all I have today… now, go shopping!

Welcome to Texas!

April 6, 2012 in News, Texas

Yep, I am here.  Look out Texas.

If you haven’t heard by now, my husband took a job working in North Texas for a big name computer company.  He’s been in Texas since January, but I’ve still been home in Arkansas.  Well, I am here now.  I start my job working at a medical office on Monday.  I’ll spend next week training in Dallas.  We won’t be living in Dallas, it’s just where the “hub” of my office is located.  I’m not sure I could deal with Dallas traffic every day.

While we settle in, I’ve been really busy, it’s why I’m not around much right now, but I am getting back into the swing of things.  You might hear me talk a lot about house hunting, learning my way around and arranging to bring my “mini zoo” down and settle them in.  My 4 cocker spaniels are NOT here yet, and our cats are still at “home” as well.  They are being well cared for though and the worst part for them is being separated from “mom and dad”.  Believe me, it’s hard on us too.  Those are our kiddos.

Lucky me though, my long time BFF just moved to a neighboring city, and I’ve already chatted with lots of scrappers and designers who live in the area or somewhere in Texas.  It will be nice to meet up sometime!

Here’s a few more pics from my trip down.  It was a 6 hour drive and exhausting without cruise control or AC in our 21 year old Jeep Cherokee that runs like a champ (thanks to some money we just put in it)… I listened to my iPod and had the Hunger Games playing.  I’ve read the book, but I loved it and wanted to “read” it again.

So, now I am going to get busy… I am designing some while I watch the Lighting Essentials Creative Live broadcast.  Talk to you soon.

Happy Good Friday,

Kat

Happy Monday ya’ll!  I’m super sleepy.  My husband was home all weekend.  We went out and test drove some cars (I drove a ‘stang!), ate out A LOT, went to a hog baseball game and looked for houses online in Texas.  It was a great weekend, but now I have to get back to the daily grind.

Busy January!

February 1, 2012 in Sahlin Studio, Scraps and Haps

It has truly been a very busy month.  I feel like my poor little blog has been so neglected!  Truthfully, I had an error on it that I couldn’t figure out how to fix and then I clicked something the other day and suddenly it was all working again!  I finally can get caught up on my posts.

December 26th, I got sick.  :(   It was an ear infection, sinus infection that is pretty much never ending.  It turned into bronchitis.  I’ve missed quite a few days of work and am behind on everything, literally.

I did get some time to at least scrapbook.  Here’s a few pages I’ve done… I really love them!  Did I tell you I am trying project life?  I completely suck at it!!  But here’s my week one page which I LOVE, but I haven’t done 2, 3 or 4 yet… (HA!)

I also did a speed scrap at The Lilypad.  It was my first SS there and I had a blast.  The instructions led me to create a page that is one of my favorites.  I'd taken our oldest cocker spaniel, bubba Wil, on a drive with me to run a quick errand and it was his first time riding in our old Jeep Cherokee in several years.  You see, when my husband and I met, he drove a 1991 white Jeep Cherokee and it was his baby.  He loved that jeep.  10 years later, it caught fire.  Fortunately it was contained to the engine.  We were lucky but we had to have a rebuilt engine put in it.  It never ran the same so we parked it in early 2003.  We decided to have it fixed recently and after a bit of a battle with a mechanic who wanted to steal it (yes, steal it!!) we finally got it to a better mechanic and got it running.  Here's hoping it keeps running.  So it's the car I drive right now.  bubba Wil just hopped right in like he knew what he was doing.  Here's the page I made...It has some mixed kits in it which I don't do too often and that may be why I love it so much!

Last but certainly not least is the page I made for Sara Gleason's creative team call.  I'd been itching to join another team just for scrapping, it really helps me keep my scrapping up while I design and do my other CT work.  CT'in' IS a job IMO, just a fun one.  So I made a page and took the leap to apply for Sara's call.  My page was very therapeutic.  I enjoyed making it but I didn't make the team.  :(  Sara is awesome though so I'll still be buying and visiting her Plant Your Story website.

If you want to see some of my other layouts, I have one of my galleries at The Lilypad... here... Feel free to leave me some love!

I'll be posting again soon, keep a watch out!

A trip to see the lights

December 22, 2011 in Just Us

I mentioned in my earlier post that my husband and I were married under the Lights of the Ozarks on the square.  We took a little visit recently and it was my first chance to get some photos with my Canon 60D camera.  I really enjoyed learning to take photos of Christmas lights.  There’s still a lot to learn but thanks to Kevin and Amanda‘s fantastic photography information, I got some really great shots that I just love!

We had a fantastic time.  The lights are so beautiful.  You can tell a huge difference in the photos from our wedding night compared to our new photos.  We took a carriage ride around the square (it’s tradition) and had a fantastic dinner at a cafe around the corner, complete with a margarita and dessert.  It was a great follow up to our anniversary date.  Merry Christmas!

Happy 5th Anniversary

December 13, 2011 in Just Us

It was 5 years ago, on December 12, 2006, that my husband and I were married. After 11 years together, it was time.  We had a very special, yet small and simple wedding.  We were married under the Lights of the Ozarks.  It’s a tradition that lights up the square with hundreds of thousands of Christmas lights.  That year was the only year they had an “arch” of lights.  How fitting it was.  My husband dressed in his Air Force blues and I wore a solid white pantsuit with a draped white flow-y sweater.  My bouquet was fake.  We didn’t have a lot of money, in fact, we spent about 300 bucks on everything (minus the rings of course).

Every year, we celebrate our anniversary by visiting the lights and taking a carriage ride around the square, just like we did on our wedding night.  It’s very special.  It was raining yesterday so we will have to go back for the ride but we still stopped by the bakery and picked up a mini Christmas cake and two red velvet cupcakes.

You may notice the extra item in the photo… Yes, that’s my new iPhone 4S.  I was NOT expecting that!  My husband went into the kitchen and while I was taking photos, suddenly a phone was ringing.  It sounded vaguely like mine and turned out, it WAS mine, just not the “mine” I expected.  A text at the top said Happy Anniversary.  My husband, super sneaky filled with sugar and topped with a huge heart.  It was a very sweet thing for him to do.  I’d been wanting a new iPhone.  Mine was the 3G, so it seemed ancient.  Now I have a new friend, her name is Siri and if you ask her what she is doing tonight, she’ll tell you she’s “just thinking”.  She’s a hoot!

Happy Anniversary Scott!  xoxo

Happy Wednesday!

December 7, 2011 in New Releases, Scrap Matters

I’m trying to get better at posting on my blog.  I really do enjoy it, but sometimes I am just exhausted.  It’s the last part of the semester.  I work on a college campus, so does my husband.  He’s in his very last semester of college as well.  We are very excited about this!!  My husband has already received his first job offer.  We aren’t sure yet, but we are considering moving to Texas.  (I hear loud gasps!!)

Today, I am working on my blog and getting it moved over to a new hosting provider.  I took the Blog Design Network’s blogger class Monday night (Thanks April!!) and it was really great.  I picked a hosting provider that she recommended and am already very happy with the great service.  So bear with me as I get everything moved over.  After that, I hope to be more settled in.

In the meantime, check out my latest work.  I opened shop on December 1st at my scrap “home”… ScrapMatters.

I re-released “Holiday Love” and a new set of templates.  I also was able to design my first Mix A Kit set.  Our colors were some of my absolute favorites this month and since I love SNOW sooo much, this made it really fun to design.  PS  We had a little snow here in Arkansas yesterday!  It was less than an inch but everything was beautifully white.

I really hope you like what I’ve done so far.  I welcome any and all feedback (even the negative) because it helps me learn and grow.  I enjoy designing kits and graphic design in general so learning something new is something I can embrace.

So have a wonderful Wednesday!!

(hugs) Kat
